Check for an over amount of play or leaks also inspect possible prior damage to tires caused by exhausted shocks & struts!

The primary purpose of automobile shocks and car struts is to limit suspension travel. This is accomplished by turning spring movement into heat, which is then is less by hydraulic fluid. The result is a vehicle that doesn’t bounce continually whereas driving on uneven roads.

What is the difference between shocks and struts?

Struts and shocks are two totally different elements that perform similar functions on varied suspension systems. For strut suspensions, the spring is held by the strut with the strut providing structural support for the vehicle. Also Struts can be the most used on cars.

Shocks though, are mounted straight to the vehicle’s frame on one finish and then the lower suspension on the other side. The Shocks provide no structural support for the vehicle. Shocks are most common on trucks, vans and SUVs.
